Black Swan Psychology Review - 1700 Words

Using Behavioral Therapy to Treat Borderline Personality Disorder The Black Swan is a psycho thriller film that narrates the demise of a young talented twenty-some year old ballerina named Nina Sayers. The story begins with the main character Nina anticipating her lead role as the Swan Queen in the upcoming new production of Swan Lake. This new version of Swan Lake as presented by the artistic director, Thomas Leroy, tells the story of a virginal girl that is trapped in the body of a White Swan. With no subsequent positive reinforcement from other people, other than maybe her mother, Nina has become very suspicious of the intentions of those around her, which might explain why she is often alone and has no friends. A treatment approach for Nina would include the operant conditioning. By identifying the undesired behaviors (i.e., self-mutilating), we wish to decrease in frequency and use negative reinforcement that will allow Nina to avoid an aversive state that would later decrease the likelihood of that undesired behavior. We would first want to identify the cause to her self-mutilation and attribute a particular behavior to carry on the negative reinforcement. So as Nina’s anxiety begins to escalate and begins to profusely scratch her shoulder, Nina should practice certain breathing exercises that will reduce her stress and possibly even decrease her chance of experiencing a hallucination. Self-monitoring would help to ensure that this conditioning technique is being applied and progressing. More importantly, to successfully treat this disorder it is best to use an approach that was developed for these difficult-to-treat patients with the borderline personality disorder. Child Abuse And Its Effects On Children - 1160 Words

Most parents and other caregivers do not intend to hurt their children, but abuse is defined by the effect on the child, not the motivation of the parents or caregiver. Tens of thousands of children each year are traumatized by physical, sexual, and emotional abusers or by caregivers who neglect them, making child abuse as common as it is shocking. Most of us can’t imagine what would make an adult use violence against a child, and the worse the behavior is, the more unimaginable it seems. But the incidence of parents and other caregivers consciously, even willfully, committing acts that harm the very children they’re supposed to be nurturing is a sad fact of human society that cuts across all lines of ethnicity and class. Whether the abuse is rooted in the perpetrator’s mental illness, substance abuse, or inability to cope, the psychological result for each abused child is often the same: deep emotional scars and a feeling of worthlessness. â€Å"Child Abuse is when a parent of caregiver, whether through action or failing to act, Cause’s injury, death emotional harm or risk of serious harm to a child. Illegal or Legal Children Children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants should not become U.S. citizens. Many pregnant immigrant women are illegally coming into the country just to have their babies. These women get free medical attention for themselves and the baby. This is costing the U.S. millions of dollars every year. It’s time to end the policy that illegal immigrant mothers can stay in the U.S. just because she has given birth to a child that is now a citizen. Diversity contributes to cultural enrichment. Many people support the law that children born to illegal immigrants should have citizenship. The children are citizens by law according to the 14th amendment. This states all citizens born in the U.S. have citizenship. The children born to illegal immigrants should have a right to have a good life free from poverty and a good education. They are U.S. citizens according to the law. In many aspects it is okay for that child to receive government assistance. I think the laws are unfair to these children. The child should have a right to pursue his life as an American citizen. Many people want us to believe that by punishing children, our nations immigration problems will somehow magically disappear. Unfortunately, absolutely no evidence exists that supports these claims. Business Research Methods Research Proposal

Question: Discuss about the Business Research Methods Research Proposal. Answer: Research Philosophy Research methodology provides the specific guidelines for the research (Smith 2015). This particular research project will follow a specific research methodology to achieve the aim of the research easily. This part will describe how this research project will be carried on by following particular research philosophy, approach, design, data collection and analysis methods. Research philosophy is one of the most important methodological parts of a research (Flick 2015). There are mainly three philosophies are available for a particular research work and these philosophies are positivism, realism and interpretivism philosophy (Hartas 2015). Positivism philosophy is based on the natural relationship between the research variables. In this research philosophy, the results are obtained by interpreting the data by logical reasons and applying the practical knowledge (Katz 2015). The realism philosophy is based on the real belief, perceptions and the linguistic practices. This particular research philosophy is used to analyze a large number of data which are based on the subjects like, mathematics, ethics, science and modality (Clement et al. 2015). On the other side, interpretivism philosophy is based on the idealism and social constructivism. However, in this particular study, the positivism philosophy will be followed. This philosophy will be selected because this philosophy is based on logical background and so the data of the study can be analyzed logically (McNabb 2015). At the same time, the positivism research philosophy is much easy and less time consuming. A research can follow the philosophy when it follows the research approach properly. Research approach is another vital part of a research work. There are two research approaches available for conducting a research study (McCusker and Gunaydin 2015). This research approaches are inductive approach and deductive approach. Inductive research approaches is followed when the research is aimed to originate a new theory through analysis of the collected data (Bryman and Bell 2015). On the other side, deductive research approach is followed when the research wants to achieve the research goal by testing the existing theories. In this particular study, the deductive research approach will be followed because this study does not want to develop any new theory regarding marketing strategies or consumer behavior. It will just use the existing theories to analyze the data (Hussein 2015). At the same time, the deductive research approach helps to solve the research problem within very short time. As the available time for this research will be very limited, it will be more suitable if the deductive research approach is followed (Merriam and Tisdell 2015). Research design is another part that helps to conduct that research as per the philosophy. Research design indicates the overall strategy, which is followed by the research to ensure the final success of the study (Mackey and Gass 2015). A research work can follow any particular research design among all the available three research designs and that are descriptive design, explanatory design and exploratory design (Silverman 2016). The names of the designs explain the characteristics of them. In case of descriptive design, the research is done in more detailed manner and this research design uses the existing theories and literature to study the data. This research design is easier than the other two designs (Marais and Pienaar-Marais 2016). The explanatory research design helps to conduct the research by explaining the ideas and thoughts. On the other side, in case of exploratory research design, the new ideas are explored to solve the specific problems of the research (Dunlap et a l. 2016). However, this particular research will follow the descriptive research design because this study will try to analyze the relationship between the marketing strategies and the consumer buying behavior by using the existing theories and literature. At the same time, this research design allows to collect the data through very simple ways like, survey, interview and observations (Singh and Tewari 2015). Along with that, this particular research design allows to analyze the data by using statistical method. Data collection method Data is the most important part of a research project. A research can use primary and secondary data to achieve the goal of the research (Caillaud, Rose and Goepp 2016). The primary data is the new data, which is unavailable in any book, journal, article and in the internet sources. This data needs to be collected through field work or through observations. Generally, the primary data for a research work is collected by conducting survey, taking interview or only through observations and focus group study (Au et al. 2016). The collection of primary data requires much time and cost. Moreover, the primary data is more biased. On the other side, secondary data is the existing data, which is available in different books, websites, articles and journals. The secondary data can be collected easily because this data already exists and no extra time and knowledge need to be involved for developing a new data set (Sessler and Imrey 2015). This type of research data is less biased than before. Any type of theories and existing literature used in a study are the part of the secondary data of the study. However, in this study, both types of data will be used. The secondary data will be used because this will provide the basic knowledge over the research area. On the other side, the primary data will help to get the practical knowledge over the subject at current scenario (Archer et al. 2015). During this study, the primary data will be collected by surveying the customers in UK and interviewing the managers of different well-known companies like Tesco, Sainsbury, Marks and Spencer and Zara. The secondary data will be collected from different books, articles, journals and websites. As stated above, the primary data for this study will be collected by surveying the customers of different companies in UK and interviewing the managers of four big organizations in UK (Skinner 2015). However, before conducting the survey or taking the interview, it is essential to identify an appropriate sample for collecting the data. In this study, the sampling will be done with the help of simple random sampling method. In order to choose the sample for the survey, the sampling will be done as per the probability sampling technique because the number of customers is huge or it can be said that population size is huge (Dunlap et al. 2016). On the other side, the sample for the interview will be selected with the help of non-probability sampling technique. In order to do the survey, the survey questionnaire will be sent to 70 customers and it is expected that at least 50 customers will reply back. At the same time, for interview, the approach will be made to 7 managers and it is expected that atleast 4 will be agreed to take part in the interview process. Therefore, the expected sample size for the survey is 50 and for the interview, it is 4. Data analysis techniques Without data analysis a research work cannot be completed. Data analysis of a research project can be done mainly by two methods quantitative data analysis method and qualitative data analysis method (Mackey and Gass 2015). The quantitative data analysis is a mathematical way to analyze the data. It is based on scientific method. The analysis of the research data is very easy if this is done with the help of the quantitative data analysis technique. In case of the quantitative data analysis, the statistical results can be obtained, which are easy to interpret and understand. The quantitative analysis of research data can be done within very short time span and the cost of this particular type of data analysis is also very less (McCusker and Gunaydin 2015). On the other side, in case of qualitative data analysis, the research data is analyzed in detail. This particular type of data analysis is done on the basis of the existing literature and theories. This data analysis is not done mathematically but it is done logically and theoretically. However, this data analysis takes more time than the quantitative data analysis technique (Katz 2015). The detailed analysis of research data helps to get detailed knowledge about the research results and this ultimately helps to understand the results easily. However, this particular study will use both qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques to analyze the research data. The data that will be collected through the survey method will be analyzed with the help of quantitative data analysis technique and the data that will be collected through the interview method, will be analyzed through the qualitative data analysis technique. Ethical issues A research work can face different types of ethical issues. Ethics is very important and must be maintained while conducting a research work. If the ethical part is ignored during the research, then the whole research can be useless (Skinner 2015). However, the ethical issues can take place in case of maintenance of the personal data of the research participants, taking proper permission from the appropriate authority and maintenance of reliability and validity of the research data. However, during this particular study, the ethical issues can be managed by taking proper steps before starting the research work. Australians Dreamtime Essays - Culture, , Term Papers

Australians' Dreamtime I am going to describe anthropologically the aboriginal Australians' Dreamtime. The Dreamtimeis a term that depicts unique stories and beliefs that are claimed and held by different Aboriginal groups within Australia. The historical background of the Dreamtime word and its implications says something about the development of the ideas held aboutthe Aboriginal world, and how they are expressed through art. The Dreamtime appeared as a word to portray the Aboriginal Creation mythology, and was first used in the 1890s. It was developed from Aranda culture by a white man who was based in Alice Springs and had a very good working knowledge of the local Aboriginal languages. During the mid-1890s the Dreamtime was popularized in the work of Baldwin Spencer, who was a prominent anthropologistworking atthetime. The Dreamtime word has since gone into general usage in Australia as a description of the religious beliefs of Aboriginal communities, and has come down through the twentieth centur y as a widely understood term. Traditions Aboriginal religion revolves around the Dreamtime. Totems are also an important part of Aboriginal religious identity. Totems are symbols from the natural world that serve to identify people and their relationships with one another in the social world. For instance, a family or clan may be associated with a certain bird. That bird's nature, whether it is ferocious or peaceful, a bird of prey or a songbird, is associated with the family or clan that uses it as its totem. The religious world of the Aboriginal Australians is inhabited by ghosts of the dead, as well as a variety of spirits who control certain aspects of the natural world, such as the Rainbow Serpent, who brings rain. Rituals are performed to placate these spirits and to increase the fertility of certain species of animals that are important to the Aborigines. Since the colonization of Australia, many Aboriginal people have converted to Christianity, either by choice or through t he influence of education in mission schools. For generations, European colonists would remove children from Aboriginal families and send them to Christian schools. This practice was thought to be in the best interests of the Aborigines. Resentment over these kidnappings is still strong. Cultural relativism wrongly claims that each culture has its own distinct but equally valid mode of perception, thought, and choice. Cultural relativism, the opposite of the idea that moral truth is universal and objective, contends there is no such thing as absolute right and wrong. There is only right and wrong as specified by the moral code of each society. Within a society , a standard of right and wrong can be inviolate. Cultural relativism maintains that man's opinion within a given culture defines what is right and wrong. Cultural relativism is the mistaken idea that there are no objective standards by which our society can be judged because each culture is entitled to its own beliefs and accepted practices. No one can object to any society's intolerance that reflects its indigenous worldview. Because there is no objective moral truth that pertains to all people and for all times, one moral code is no be t ter or no worse than any other. Different scholar s have given their understanding of the term ethnocentrism. According to anthropologists, the concept combines the belief that one's own culture is superior to other cultures, with the practice of judging other cultures by the standards of o ne's own culture. Ethnocentrism is also defined as a feeling that one's own group has a mode of living, values and patterns of adaptation that are superio r to other groups . Ethnology is the scientific study of the origin and functioning of humans and their cultures. It is a major branch of cultural anthropology. The researcher has observed that people in developed countries of Europe and America tend to despise other nations and their customs terming them as queer and foolish, just because they are different from their own. The "western church' has not been spared from prejudices and biases about African religion as revealed by missionary's attitudes. It is believed that ethnocentrism is a major cause of problems between the wes tern industrialized portion of the world and the developing nations. Ethnicity and the related concept

Ozone depletion, greenhouse effect, acid rain essays

Ozone depletion, greenhouse effect, acid rain essays Everyone knows that the atmosphere and the pollution in the world is very dangerous to everything and everyone. But how bad are these different things that affect us and everything around us? This paper will specifically look at the effects, global effect and the treatment on acid rain, the greenhouse effect and the ozone depletion. Acid rain has been around for a long time. It was first noticed around the 17 century during the industrialization period. Scientists have been paying attention to acid rain since that time and the effects it has had on the plants, animals, humans etc. Acid rain is very dangerous as most people know. First off the term is not totally correct and scientists prefer the terminology acid depositions. The reason these scientists believe that it is called acid depositions instead of acid rain is simply because the acid which was formed by pollution can in fact return to the earth as either solid or a gas and not only in the form of rain. Acid depositions can come in rain, fog or even snow. Industries, factories, vehicles, aerosol cans, etc are all causes for acid rain. This is because all of these things increase the level of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen in the air we breathe in. These chemicals will later transform into sulphuric acid as well as nitric acid which in the long run will co me down in the form of acid rain. Electric companies have to burn a lot of coal, which contains a very low amount of sulphur, in a days time which will increase the level of sulphur dioxide in the atmosphere. But the electric companies are not the only ones to blame; a lot of other companies and industries have to process raw ore (a mineral or a numerous amount of minerals which a valuable or constituent can be profitably mined or extracted) so they can obtain copper, zinc, and nickel. The problem with that is that copper, zinc, and nickel are also causes of acid rain. Most poll...

Brett Dennen - Ain't No Reason writing about the song and the video Essay

Brett Dennen - Ain't No Reason writing about the song and the video - Essay Example Speakers use what they know to find their attitudes on a subject and their understanding of a reader (Lamb 4). Summary of the text The song â€Å"ain’t no reason† by Brett Dennen talks about how things like ignorance, priviledge, and life’s daily routine get in the way not just of addressing but also recognizing the suffering around us. He talks about how many lives are been irreparably changed and hurt and the way our world has been destroyed and hence the future generation tends to have a bleak outlook. The reasons for this he explains are because of poverty, war, violence, hatred, genocide, environmental degradation, oppression and most importantly because we are unable to see the suffering that surround and end up working against it. This text can trigger the audience to debate about what it really means to be conscious of suffering and the moral obligations we have to make in order to effect change. Bretten stresses that we should passively understand that t he answer to all this is love. He describes it as a practice of kindness, compassion and respect among all the living things our planet included. He is strongly against the idea of living a disconnected life. Aristotle argued that it is possible to connect to your audience logically emotionally and ethically. These three forms what is referred to as the rhetorical triangle (Lutze 1). ETHOS (WRITER) LOGOS (TEXT) PATHOS (READER) (Henggeler 2). These three appeals in the triangle form a balance of what the writer should use to be able to form an effective argument. Each appeal is important to be able to produce a well balanced argument as they directly affect each other. Rhetorical appeals (ethos, pathos, logos) Ethos Ethos refers to character of a writer. This explores the ability to deal with a topic. (Metzeger 7). The writer or singer Brett Dennen is well conversant with the way people are living around him. This is evidenced by the way he refers to the way people are living around him. We are made aware of that by the fact that he says he does not understand or neither explains why they live the way they live yet they do it everyday.’ I can't explain why we live this way. We do it every day (Dennen n. p.)’. The writer is also able to explore the issue of politics of lies and also the deception used by those in power. Pathos Pathos refers to the arguments or rather the appeals to emotions. This can be viewed a show well the writer is able to draw the audience’s emotions and tap in to them. It is the role of the audience in the argument (Henggeler 1). The song artist Brett Dennen is able to draw the listeners emotions in his song ‘Ain’t No Reason’ and thereby has effectively used pathos to connect to his listeners. He is able to draw the emotions of confusion when he points out that he can’t explain why they live that way yet they continue to do it every day. ‘I can't explain why we live this way. We do it e very day (Dennen).’ The song artist’ is also able to explore the emotion of bitterness and also expresses the continuity of their suffering. The writer states, ’I gotta a basket full of lemons and they all taste the same’ shows of the continuous bitterness. This can also suggest that there is recurrence of the same things over and over again till they start getting used to the feeling of being bitter with the occurrences. Brett Dennen

The Boston Molasses Disaster Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

The Boston Molasses Disaster - Essay Example A lawsuit was filed against the company and a bitter legal battle ensued after the disaster. Negligence and errors in design were finally proved to be the most obvious reasons explaining the tank failure. This event raised public morale to combat high handed corporates who did not pay much attention to environmental issues and public safety. And the technical aspects of the disaster are also extremely vital. A simple and stationary storage tank had behaved in a strange manner. This signals poor understanding of chemical engineering. Designing a storage tank is not just a mechanical engineering topic. Chemistry of the material to be stored in the tank is highly important. Continual research on the Boston Molasses Disaster can help the engineering community to learn from past mistakes and understand the importance of industrial safety in the context of holistic disaster management preparedness. Background The Boston Molasses Disaster: What happened? The Center for Chemical Process Safety or CCPS has furnished a very concise but informative description of the Boston Molasses Disaster. On 15th January 1919 morning, a large storage tank in northern Boston blasted releasing tons of molasses. The steel tank was 50 ft or 15 m high. It had a diameter of 90 ft or 27 m containing nearly 2.3 million US gallons of molasses. All the rivets sealing the tank walls were spattered in the manner of machine gun firing, and chunks of steel were hurled across the area. Consequently, a wave or molasses rising above 15 ft or 5m began to surge ahead from the site of the blast. The wave had a speed of about 60 km/hr and traveled across two bocks of the Boston city with great momentum. Consequently, 21 people were killed, above 150 were injured, several buildings and vehicles were smashed, and the municipal system was completely disrupted. See Figure – 1. (CCPS 2007) Figure 1: Photographs showing the site of disaster before and after the molasses tank failure took place. Source: CCPS (2007) 1.1.2 The technology/engineering involved The CCPS (2007) has utilized a sound technical a pproach to describe the disaster. This approach is contextual with relation to both the old and new paradigms of engineering. The old paradigm of early 20th century engineering technology was devoid of facilities like computer aided design (CAD), industrial control systems, etc. The new paradigm is modern 21st century engineering which has power of new discoveries and superior computing efficacy. Jet Blue Essay Example for Free

Jet Blue Essay There are a few trends that have come into play over the past few years. These different trends range from pricing for the flight to in flight perks. It seems that the perks and other in flight amenities are what may be what makes the difference and will impact any of the airline company’s strategy. Due to major hikes in fuel costs over the past year the airlines have had no other choice but to start passing this expense on to the flyers. The airlines have been trying to come up with competitive ways to differentiate themselves from the competition. Many of the airlines even charge for you check bags also. According to Ethan Davidoff in his article The Cost Behind Checking Bags most airlines only charge $25 for a bag to be checked but there is Southwest Airlines that allows two bags to be checked before charging. With that said in the above mentioned article one can see that you definitely want to travel light because for more than one bag the prices start to increase all the way up to $600. Although Southwest allows two checked bags there are other airlines that allow one free checked bag and most have a weight limit of 50lbs. If one were to travel internationally it may be cheaper to just purchase brand new clothes when you land. Not to mention the convenience of not checking any bags or having to wait to pick it up when you land, etc. So not only have airlines starting charging to check bags but many have stopped providing food, unless the flight is over a given amount of time and you are usually paying for that snack. The above mentioned change in airline airfares has certainly affected many airlines’ strategies. Also as mentioned above it has affected them most specifically in what type of benefits, perks, or amenities that they are willing to offer their flyers. Jet Blue has certainly followed suite and done various things to try to set themselves apart Discuss Jet Blue’s strategic intent. Jet Blue says that their â€Å"objective is optimize our fare mix to increase our average fare and, in certain markets, utilize our network to maximize connecting opportunities while continuing to provide our customers with competitive fares† (jetblue. om SEC filings, p. 31). Like any other company they are looking to cut costs without hurting any of the aspects of their company that sets them apart (i. e. customer service, tv, radio). Jet Blue airline seems to have set its strategy to take advantage of the charges that other airlines charge. They have set themselves apart by offering things on their flights that other airlines either don’t have or charge for. Jet Blue allows the firs t bag to fly free, the second costs $35, and the third costs $75. Although they do not have wireless broadband yet, unlike some other airlines, they do plan to have it in place 2012, and this is so because all of Jet Blue’s aircrafts are being set up for ViaSat satellite wireless which is new and no other airline has. Jet Blue is testing the service for ViaSat and the FAA for testing to be approved for use on airlines. However on the ground in the terminal it does offer free broadband at most airports (http://www. jetblue. com/flying-on-jetblue/onboard/wifi. asp). A strategy held by Jet Blue like that of any business is to improve its bottom line. Jet Blue wants not only to be profitable while reducing costs but they want their customers to be happy and have a good flying experience. Jet Blue has a saying on their site that says â€Å"our standards beat their extras† (http://www. jetblue. com/flying-on-jetblue/). They aim to provide stellar customer service. As a matter of fact according to ehow. com Jet Blue â€Å"was awarded the Conde Nast Traveler ‘Readers Choice Award’ for best domestic airline† and â€Å"in 2008, it won J. D. Power and Associates ‘Highest Customer Satisfaction Among Low Cost Carriers in North America’ award (ehow. com). More specifically they also state on their website that they have † ranked ‘Highest in Customer Satisfaction Among Low-Cost Carriers in North America’ by J. D. Power and Associates for five years in a row† (http://www. jetblue. com/about/work/). Jet Blue airlines prides itself on its customer service. As noticed from the previous paragraph they have won awards for their customer service. It is no wonder that the company believes in making their customer’s flight experience a pleasant one since the company was started by â€Å"David Neeleman and a number of Southwest Airlines employees in February 1999† (ehow. om). Outstanding customer service is part of their strategy and it is one of their many features that puts them heads above the competition. Discuss Jet Blue’s financial objectives and whether or not the company has been successful in achieving this objective. Before even getting into the financial objectives of the company just reading the SEC report for 2010 really shows proof that Jet Blue has been an extremely successful company over the past ten years. Since they were incorporated in 1998, flight starting in 2000, they have grown from $38. million in net income in 2001 to net income of $97 million in 2010 (jetblue. com). The aforementioned data shows proof of growth and success in lieu of turbulent financial times with rising fuel costs. Fuel costs dramatically rose over the company’s time in business which could have easily put a company under but they continue to strive. Discuss Jet Blue’s strategic elements of cost, organizational culture, and human resource practices and evaluate whether each element provides the organization with a competitive advantage. Jet Blue continues to be competitive with their ticket and baggage pricing. In their 2010 SEC filing they term themselves a â€Å"value airline – based on service, style, and cost† (p. 4). They go on to discuss in the overview how they feel that they continue to provide â€Å"best coach product† and â€Å"reasonably priced optional upgrades† (http://investor. jetblue. com, p. 4). As for Jet Blue’s organizational culture their web site specifically says â€Å"If youre looking for a job where your career, your passion, and your sense of fun are all important then youve landed at the right place. At JetBlue weve built an award-winning brand based on delivering value, service, style and comfort to our customers — and to our crewmembers. And, by hiring people who share our vision, weve created a place where people enjoy coming to work† (http://www. jetblue. com/about/work/). Jet Blue continues remain un-unionized. Discuss Jet Blue’s strategies for 2008 and beyond and evaluate whether or not Jet Blue will be successful implementing these strategies. Part of their strategy in 2008 has been the same as previous and later years, to remain on time with their flights. They have continued to do well meeting this goal. Jet Blue’s ongoing strategy has been to deliver exceptional customer service and on time direct flights. In 2008 they stated in their SEC filings that they were the â€Å"7th largest passenger carrier† and in their 2010 SEC filings they were the â€Å"6th largest†. Regardless of any strategies that they planned to implement they were obviously successful. The proof lies in their continued recognition by JD Power Assoc, their net income increases, and their growth to 6th largest passenger carrier in the US. While other airlines are folding, being bought out, or merging Jet Blue is continuing to grow. It is no wonder since they offer outstanding customer service as only part of their strategy and it is one of their many features that puts them heads above the competition. Some of their other features that ranks them high with their customers is the fact that they offer 36 tv channels, XM/Sirius radio, and unlimited snacks and beverages to all passengers at no cost. Kudos to a company for keeping its employees (all non-union) and customers happy.

The Environmental Impact of Water Reservoirs Essay -- Environmental Im

[A water reservoir is a human-made lake that is created when a river is dammed to serve one or more purposes, such as to generate hydropower production, provide a water supply for drinking, irrigation, and flood protection] (www.eea.europa.eu). The effects of water reservoirs on the environment have stirred controversy since their introduction. Though water reservoirs can create many sought out improvements for a society it can detrimentally impact natural habitats and spawn a number of environmental complications. The debate on whether water reservoirs are truly beneficial or harmful towards human populations is ongoing as new projects like the Three Gorges in China are concluded. In the following essay I will be giving a critical review on the various negatives that arise from the creation of a water reservoir. The creation of a water reservoir will have a significant impact on the natural habitats that existed prior to its building. The surroundings around the damn will be inundated and reclaimed as part of the newly created water reservoir. The runoff of the initial filling of the reservoir will cause the existing plant life to die and decompose. For the first years stabilization will take place where the rotting plant life releases an abundance of carbon back into the atmosphere. Further on, the decomposing of plant material that settles at the bottom of the reservoir will produce and release large amounts of methane. Punctuation error in your writing. Essay

Making mistakes in subject-verb agreement has always been my weakness when it comes to the grammar of my writing. I keep on doing the same grammatical lapses again and again. There are several rules regarding subject-verb agreement, of course, and being ignorant of one or two of them is forgivable, but what is unforgivable if you know the rule and yet continue to make the same mistake. The simple rule which I keep slipping n is the agreement of subject and verb in terms of number, especially in a present tense sentence. The rule states that when the subject is singular, the verb should also be singular. Inversely, when the subject is plural, the verb should also be plural. The difference between a singular and a plural verb is one letter â€Å"s† and oftentimes I would omit, usually unknowingly or by carelessness, putting that one letter. I have tried to correct the bad habit by being more conscious about my writing, during and after writing. While writing and every time I am to write an action word, I would constantly remind myself to look back to the subject of the verb. During revision of what I wrote, I would run through the entire piece with the one purpose of looking for subject-verb agreement mistakes. I would check for errors in punctuation, spelling, and style during the first revision, but focus on subject-verb agreement on the second run-through.

Internet shopping is also vulnerable to credit card fraud, from hackers that access credit card details saved to a website. Websites can also sneakily charge you with extra fees without you noticing, and can cost you quite a large amount. Another problem is that websites can usually only be paid with credit cards, not cash. This can be a problem if you are ineligible for a credit card, or do not have one for whatever reason. Retail shopping provides a great experience for the consumer, and can be better than internet shopping in some ways. When retail shopping, you can actually touch the product, and see it with your own eyes. This provides reassurance to the consumer that the product is the quality that they intend to buy, and can trust the store. Normally, if an item is boxed, the store will have a show model that potential buyers can interact with and base their decision of whether to buy it off of the functionality and price of that item. Retail shopping also allows the consumer to pay with cash, an option that internet shopping does not feature. This means that people can only pay for things with the money they have, and avoid credit build up on credit cards. On the other hand, some say retail shopping is not as good as internet shopping.Show MoreRelatedEssay on As Fashion Merchandiser1401 Words   |  6 PagesHow to Draw Strategy from a Comparison Shopping Report Millard’s Mini-Case As an FMM student you have already done lots of shopping reports.
